At first, a complex low-pressure system remains over the northern Atlantic, sending occasional frontal troughs across the North Sea. From Thursday onward, a weak ridge develops over southern Europe. Watch the video below for this week’s updates, or read the full blog.

On Tuesday, 9 September, a complex low-pressure system is positioned over the northern Atlantic, where it remains throughout the week. At times, secondary lows move north of the United Kingdom, bringing unsettled and changeable weather conditions for the entire period.

Tuesday remains calm, but changes are expected from Wednesday onward. Frontal troughs will occasionally pass over the North Sea, leading to unsettled and uncertain conditions. The North Sea may experience brief increases in wind and wave activity during the week. In general, winds are not expected to exceed 25–30 knots, and waves should remain below 3–3.5 meters (Figure 1). There is also a chance of localized thunderstorms.

A deep secondary low will move northeast on Sunday, reaching north of Ireland by Monday. An associated sharp frontal trough will cross the North Sea from Sunday evening through Monday, bringing more unsettled conditions to the region. Winds may increase to 30-40 knots, and waves could reach up to 4-5 meters locally. As confidence in this development is low, continue to follow daily forecasts.
